Academic medicine has been described as a major public trust and a national resource. Since those statements were made nearly 20 years ago, healthcare and academic medicine remain critically important but have also become increasingly complex. The challenges now involved in providing quality care, discovering new medical knowledge, and training the next generation of physicians are beyond anything that was ever imagined. To maintain the public trust and strengthen this national resource high quality leadership at every level within our organizations is critical. We are clearly at a point in time where leadership development is not an option!
To equip current and future leaders with the tools and understandings they need to shoulder such critically important responsibilities the Office of Faculty Affairs and Professional Development has collaborated with several organizations to produce targeted leadership development opportunities.
