As an academic medical center, IUSM is distinct from other healthcare environments because of our dedication and commitment to teaching and learning. Faculty are engaged in teaching across a variety of venues from teaching medical students, mentoring junior faculty, and teaching each other through a culture of collaboration. As healthcare scientists and professionals, we strive for excellence in all that we do including our teaching performance and the outcomes of our students.
OFAPD provides a number of workshops, programs, and services to help faculty realize their full potential in their teaching capacities. Regularly scheduled programs include the quarterly Faculty Enrichment and Education Development (FEED) series, the annual school-wide retreat, and the programs offered through the IUSM Academy of Medical Educator.
In addition, faculty can request observations of teaching for the purpose of developing and improving their skills whether in a large lecture, at the bedside, in a small group or in a lab setting. To learn more, please click here.
Current practices in higher education include some innovative strategies using technology - web courses, podcasts, and discussion forums. Through an ongoing partnership with the IUPUI Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL), IUSM faculty members have a local resource to learn how to integrate teaching technologies into their courses and rotations. To find out more about the CTL, visit their website or call (317) 274-1300.
